Pupils go for gold in Judo champs

BEAULIEU - The South African Schools Judo Championships hosted by Judo SA took place recently in Turffontein, Johannesburg.

 

Three Beaulieu Preparatory pupils performed well in the championship and received three gold and two silver medals between them. In the advanced group, Matt Morkel earned and won a gold medal for boys under nine years old, weighing under 34kg. Alex Hristov won gold for boys U9 weighing under 38kg. Flynn Carroll also won a gold medal in the novice group for Group 3 boys U13 to U14, weighing under 42kg.

The McCabe brothers, Connor and Ethan, won two silver medals in their respective categories, advanced boys U11 under 42kg and advanced boys U9 under 42kg.

Other Beaulieu Preparatory boys who competed were Douglas Jennett and Travis Mace, both in the novice group.

The boys are all coached by Sensei Basil Smith from Club Tatami who said, “The boys worked hard and got results. Their tenacity, spirit, commitment and dedication to the sport are an inspiration to us all.”
