St Peter’s pupil succeeds in karate champs

PAULSHOF - Nephi Brown (12), a St Peter's Boys Preparatory School pupil, recently participated in the Tenshinkan World Karate Championships in Sweden.

Brown faced stiff international competition, and was one of two boys and three girls who represented South Africa. He was awarded third place in the championships.

“Karate helps me to know how to protect myself, it also helps keep me fit,” Brown said.

He was graded a junior black belt from pre-black belt by the Konco Miwa, 10th Dan from Japan.

Tenshinkan Karate sensei Cindy-Lee Ludick is proud of Brown for coming third out of all those who participated from across the world.

“He always tries his best in everything that he does,” said Ludick.

“Karate is quite an intense sport and if you see a child show dedication and is awarded for their efforts, how else would you not be proud of that?”

Countries that competed in the championships were Denmark, Scotland, Sweden and South Africa, among others.
