Hotpod yoga which originated in London will be officially launched on 23 May at Body Beautiful Gym at Midway Mews in Halfway House. The woman bringing it to the small community is Talitha Grobler who described hotpod yoga as quite an experience.
“[The pod] is heated to a perfect 37 degrees. The atmosphere inside the pod is warm and cosy – it’s dimly lit, ambient in colour, scented with amazing bergamot and filled with great urban ambient tunes.” Grobler said as soon as a person walks through the inflatable door, the world outside is forgotten.
“I have embarked on a two-month Bikram Yoga course, which I completed at the end of November. I am currently busy accumulating practical hours in order to get my full qualification,” she said. Grobler also started her own yoga teaching business, Yogi Love, last year.
“The teachers and the classes are all about making everyone feel welcome. We work with like-minded people: people who are open, down-to-earth, friendly and don’t take life too seriously,” she said of her clientele.
“The classes are high-impact (mentally and physically),” said Grobler. Although she extended her welcome to women who had recently given birth, she warned the yoga was not advisable during pregnancy.
Grobler said the aim of yoga is for participants to feel stronger and more flexible after their very first class. “Better body mechanics means your body works the way it should. A single hotpod yoga class can burn up to 700 calories aiding in weight loss,” she said.
“We generally work with people between the ages of 16 and 65.”
Grobler said she got hooked on yoga six years ago and seeing as she was already a preschool teacher, teaching yoga was the next logical step for her.
