Runners urged to remain cautious while training

JOBURG - With just over three months left until the celebrated Comrades Marathon returns, runners preparing for the gruelling marathon are urged to remain vigilant. The marathon will take place on 31 May from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

This was issued by security company, ADT, with Clive Humphrey urging runners to remain vigilant as they train because while training is important, so is their safety.

“Exercising caution starts even before you leave your home if you are heading out to the gym or for a run. Let someone know when you will be back. This way, if you are not home as scheduled, they can raise the alarm immediately and no time will be wasted,” said Humphrey, director of ADT Security Central Region.

Humphrey added that runners should also ensure the safety of their families and homes while they are out, as this is of the utmost importance and advised residents to double-check that the alarm is activated and that the doors and gates are properly locked before leaving.

“Where possible, avoid running or cycling when it is dark outside and never go jogging or cycling alone; invite family or friends to go with you,” he stressed.
