Massive Midmar Mile race for French School

JOBURG - Pupils of Lycée Jules Verne French School in Sandton performed well at the Midmar Mile swimming race.

Florent Moignard, the school’s communications officer said the Midmar Mile was one of three challenges that pupils had to participate in, to be able to win the Jules Verne Trophy.

Moignard explained, “The Jules Verne Trophy is a sporting challenge open to all the French school pupils from Grade 3 and onwards. To win the challenge, they have to complete in three races during the school year, a mountain bike or cycle road race, a swimming race and a running race.”

For the mountain bike or cycle road race, Moignard said some pupils chose to take part in the 947 Cycle Challenge. For the swimming race the pupils participated in the Midmar Mile, and for the running race pupils could choose to take part in any 10 or 15km race.

A total of 51 pupils from the school participated in the Midmar Mile. Pupil Barbara Léger set a new school record when she completed the race in a time of 00:28:33. Four pupils finished in under 31 minutes and were Killian Tanguy, Nini Adamia, Mélanie Harcourt-Cooke and Lizo Skweyiya.

“Congratulations to all the participants, and especially to all the girls who dominated the race this year again,” said Moignard.
