Boxing with a difference

JOBURG - World Boxing Entertainment (WBE) will host the 11th White Collar Boxing Event, Ring Kings on 25 February.

White collar boxing is a form of boxing where men and women in white collar professions train to fight at special events. It began at a boxing gym in New York in the 90s where urban professionals gathered to spar against one another as a way of blowing off steam and staying active.

The sport has taken South Africa by storm and the event will be held at the Scarlet Ribbon in Stoneridge shopping centre in Greenstone Park.

Stephen Castle, president of World Boxing Entertainment, will be fighting on the night against Allan Pereira. Castle explained the appeal of this form of the sport, “There are many people out there men, and yes, women who enjoy the challenge of facing an opponent in the ring, but can only take part in the sport after work and on weekends,” he said.

WBE has come up with a fantastic way for these fighters to experience the thrill of taking part in real boxing matches. The fact that each fight night has a full fight card and a packed audience, shows just how popular these events are, he added.
