Mixed fortunes for Midrand Cricket Club

MIDRAND - Midrand Knights Cricket Club experienced mixed results on the weekend of 29 November.

Their 1st team defeated Joburg Cricket Club by 10 runs. Knights won the toss and elected to bat, and posted a new club record of 282/4 in 35 overs. Knights’ Pinaki Sarkar put on a display of power hitting, scoring 139 off 80 balls, not out. This is the highest individual score in the club’s history and earned him man of the match. He was well-supported by captain Phani Lingam who scored a quick 50 runs and Somu Shekar (27).

Joburg Club’s innings was shortened to 33 overs and their target was adjusted to 266 because of rain. After only managing to bat for 29 overs due to the weather, Joburg ended on 215/5 and their score was adjusted to 255 runs.

Knights’ Harsha Vardhan bowled well taking 3/35 in five overs.

In the other match, the Knights’ 2nd team lost against Commercial Cricket Club by 61 runs. Commercial were sent in to bat and posted 183/9 in 34 overs which was adjusted to 193/9 after the Midrand side were penalised 10 runs for not finishing their 35 overs in the allotted time. Knights’ Bala Sivarathri was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/23 in seven overs.

In reply, Knights were 110/3 in the 15th over. However, the middle order buckled under the pressure and the Midrand side were dismissed for 132 runs in the 20th over.

Knights’ Rajaram Bingi top scored with 46 runs and was well supported by Suresh Kaja (17) and Siva Rajavarapu (16).
