Griessel family cleans up Penny Place show

KYALAMI - Despite dreary weather conditions and steady rain which lasted until lunchtime, the first graded show at Penny Place Stables' new venue went ahead on 23 November.

Penny Place Stables has re-located from Blue Hills to Mjolnir Estate in Lanseria.

The stables’ show director Trevor Bern said everyone who had travelled from far and wide to attend the show were full of spirit. He said some “wonderful jumping” was seen in all 12 classes of the show.

Bern said course designer Kate Launder produced magnificent courses for Penny Place Stables, using the outstanding equipment on offer to her.

“It was a clean sweep for the Griessel family from the Schwaike Warmblood Stud who won five of the 12 classes,” said Bern.

“Dad, Deon Griessel won one class, daughter Ingrid won three classes and son Theunis won the 1.3m classes. Sadly mom, Renee who rides too, did not attend due to her bad accident recently [when she fell] off a young horse, leaving her in bed with broken ribs and a punctured lung. But she must have been thrilled with the outcome.”

Bern said he and president of the ground jury at the stables, Anneli Wucherpfennig were thrilled with the response and most positive feedback from all who attended the stables’ first show at the new venue.

“This venue has a great future for equestrian sport,” said Bern.
