Winners receive their prizes

MIDRAND - In September, the Mayibuye-Klipfontein Football Association had a Miss Mayibuye-Klipfontein Football Association pageant, as well as a soccer tournament where they picked the best players to represent the association in the soccer leagues.

Chairperson of the association Mike Tshipu came back in service to hand out prizes.

For the pageant, titles and prizes were promised. “Due to certain processes and logistics, the winners couldn’t collect their prizes the same day as the pageant,” said Tshipu

The winners collected their winnings on 9 November at the association’s sponsors (Fairprice furnishers) headquarters in Mayibuye. They all received beds which were worth an undisclosed amount.

Cynthia Rasoeu, the mother of the winner of the Mayibuye-Klipfontein Football Association pageant couldn’t have been more proud of her daughter. She saw the prize as testament that her daughter was doing well by entering beauty contests. “We are looking forward to getting more prizes and this is just the beginning” she said.

A young rising soccer star, Veli Nyampi , was also overjoyed having received his bed. “I feel happy. I’m glad that I’m going to get the exposure I want for my talent. I really want big teams to notice me,” he said.

The young middle fielder from Phomolong Senior Secondary School said, although his school work took priority, soccer would definitely play a huge role in his future.

The associations referee, Christopher Mashimby said, “To know that we can put smiles on young people’s faces is an honour. We do this for them,” he said. “It is always a goal of ours to see the youngsters play up until the Premier Soccer League.”

Deputy chairperson, Janki Ntsie, summed up the whole day by saying, “This is to just encourage them. The association closed operations for exam season to ensure our youngsters don’t slack in their schoolwork.”
