Cricket in Beaulieu

KYALAMI - Beaulieu Preparatory School in Kyalami hosted the U11 T20 cricket festival.

Schools that competed were Kyalami Preparatory, St Stithians, St Davids, St John’s from the Eastern Cape and Woodridge.

A visit and motivational talk from Protea player Alviro Petersen really made the tournament special. Petersen gave the talk in his capacity as founder of the Alviro Petersen Foundation, which he started last year to improve the lives of women, children, young people and the community at large through education and sport.

“We believe all are equal and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness,” said Petersen. Petersen also went on to explain the importance of being humble, of teamwork, of encouraging one another and being gracious at losing.

Matthew Farrow, teacher at Beaulieu Prep and organiser of the event said, “All the teams played like superstars. All the players behaved with dignity and pride in representing their schools in this fast-paced tournament.

“It was an all-round success and we are very proud of all the children that took part and the parents that came to support. We are also very grateful to all our sponsors.”

Beaulieu Prep won all of their five games. The top three batsmen of the tournament were Ryan Huiskamp, Dylan Kennerley and Nicholas Burn who are all from Beaulieu Preparatory School. The top three bowlers were Dillon Farrell and Max Slight from Woodridge, and Nicholas Burn from Beaulieu Preparatory.

The top fielder award was given to Ryan Gebers, while Burn achieved the highest batting average. Both players are from Beaulieu Preparatory School.
