Hot talent on cold weekend

BLUE HILLS - It was Tracy David's day at Penny Place Equestrian Centre based in Blue Hills on 8 June as she scooped the Victrix Ludorum in the 1.2m class.

Davids won the 1.2m speed class riding Franlaren Belle Amore and went on to place second in the 1.2m competition class behind Simon Hendry, who was also riding a Franlaren Stud Horse, Franlaren Des Trois.

Trevor Bern of Penny Place Equestrian Centre noted that the Franlaren Stud horses dominated the 1.2m competition, with four Franlaren Stud horses qualifying to compete in the jump-off, and three receiving places in the prize-giving.

The final results for the 1.2m competition was Hendry in first place after he rode through the finish flags in a time of 0:37:84, followed by Davids in second place after she cleared the course in 0:39:46.

Alida Bonnet riding Franlaren Belle Allure came in third, Samantha Wright riding Zuperstar came fourth, Marlein Greeff riding Seeis Melissa in fifth, and Megan Uren riding Zofka’s Farrier’s Ureka came sixth.

The 1.3m classes followed and showcased exciting showjumping with some of the top names in the sport competing.

The 1.3m competition saw 10 horse-and-rider competitors enter, but only five rode clear first-rounds to enter the jump-off.

Kimberly Williamson riding Brandenberg Chianti clinched the win after she cleared the jump-off in 0:47:24.

While Bryce McCall riding Celinne Van Der Kweken Hoeve jumped the course in a faster time of 0:43:97, he incurred four faults to place second. After knocking the same pole while riding Callaho Don Pilot and riding the course in 0:44:18, McCall also received third place.

The speed competition saw many horse and rider combinations incur penalties through refusals or knocking poles, so in the end, Ryan Andrews riding Assegai Lemonchello, who even forgot his course while riding, came in for first place.

Bruce Dewar riding Davetsaud El Nino placed second with Bryce McCall riding Celinne Van Der Kweken Hoeve in third place.

Bern extended thanks to course designer Kate Launder for producing interesting courses to challenge horses and riders at the show.

He also thanked Midfeeds, Western Shoppe and Rider’s Saddlery for sponsoring prizes for the riders and their grooms.

Penny Place Equestrian Centre’s Anneli Wucherpfennig was also delighted with her riders who achieved well during the show.

“Congratulations to Abigail Kyffen for winning the 90cm competition. It is a great achievement as it is her new horse, Abraham Lincoln, and it was her first adult show as she is only 12 years and her horse is only five,” said Wucherpfennig.

She also extended congratulations to her rider Diana Bent riding Solitaire who won the 1m competition class.
