Marathon prepares canoeists for SA Champs

Ian Faller from Midrand is among the Gauteng canoeists who competed in either the singles or doubles race on the weekend of 10 and 11 May at Homestead Dam Benoni, for selection to the Gauteng team at the SA Marathon Championships.

The championships served as the trials for the selection of the Gauteng team for the SA Marathon Championships and took place at Homestead Dam.

The SA Marathon Championships will take place at the same venue on 7 and 8 June.

On 10 May, K1 paddlers pitted their strength, fitness and endurance against each other in single canoes, which also included the guppy paddlers between six and 12 years of age, while on 11 May the doubles championships (K2) took place.

Faller finished the 22km race which consisted of five laps, and a portage run carrying the boat at the end of each lap, in a time of 01:58:00 to finish 27th overall.
