A Sunday cricket win

MIDRAND - On 9 February, Midrand Cricket Club's Sunday 5-a-side was in action against Bank Cricket Club.

Anesh Muganpersad, who scored a match-winning 50 runs in the club’s previous game, played some aggressive shots for the Midrand side which put them on a quick 38 runs off 24 balls to put the hosts on the front foot.

A number of wickets followed as the game tightened with neither side giving an inch. It was down to the last 56 balls and the hosts needed 56 runs. Abie Rakgoale came out to pair up with Tony Rowbottom for the seventh wicket.

The pair made 22 runs off 23 balls until Tony was run out for 14 runs by some very good fielding. Stuart Buy came in next and helped Abie put on a further 30 runs off 32 balls, taking the Midrand side to within four runs when Abie holed out to mid-wicket on 22. Six balls, two wickets, four runs to win.

On the first ball, two runs were made and on the second ball bowled, a tough decision was taken to take another two runs but the decision paid off as the batsmen made it; the Sunday side picked up a second win on the trot off.
