Knights’ sixth winning streak

HALFWAY HOUSE - Midrand Knights' first team played against Sandton Cricket Club in an SA7 fixture on 11 January at Halfway House Primary School.

The club’s chairperson Jeremy Meiring said, “Knights won the toss and elected to bat, on a very hot and humid day that was perfect for batting. Knights’ opening pair of Vijay Kumar and Sai Lingala took advantage of the conditions, and put an opening stand of 62 in just 11.3 overs.”

Lingala lost his wicket and Rajaram Bingi joined Kumar at the crease.

Bingi scored his sixth half century of the season, continuing where he left off last year, and steered Knights to a massive 253/9 after 40 overs.

“He was well supported by Kumar (42), Vamshi Vure (28) and captain Krishna Prasad, who played a little cameo at the end and scored 29 from just 20 deliveries,” said Meiring.

Knights’ red hot pace attack took the match to the opposition. The leader of the pack, Srini Vadlamuri and his new ball partner Vijay Kumar, bowled an accurate opening spell at high pace, putting Sandton Cricket Club under pressure from the word go, in their pursuit of 254.

“It was the duo of the in-form all rounder, Vamshi Vure (3/6 in 2.4 overs) and express pace bowler Adril D’Almeida (2/18 in 5 overs), who ripped through the Sandton batting line-up, bowling them out for a meager 106 in just over 26 overs,” said Meiring.

Knights won by 148 runs, and extended their winning streak to the sixth in a row.
