Night riders of Kyalami

A FEW MONTHS ago Cycle Kyalami riders decided to start riding at night.

This came about at a discussion about animal life after dark.

The spokesperson for Cycle Kyalami Darryl van Nierkerk said, “A company called Greater Kyalami Conservancy (GEKCO) started an initiative to preserve our open spaces. We started Cycle Kyalami to try and convince residents to make use of open spaces. More people have been participating in the night ride than the general Saturday ride so we have made the night ride a regular feature. The number of our participants reduced in Winter, but we are hoping more riders will join us this month.”

Van Nierkerk added, “We are guided by our local Sector Community Forum who control traffic and make sure all riders are safe. We have done a 10km ride at a comfortable pace and our aim is to get many riders to come out and enjoy the route and not be afraid they will be left behind. After the ride we serve our riders hot chocolate.”

The next night ride is taking place on 17 September starting from Lipizzaners parking lot, Dahlia Road, Kyalami at 7pm.
