Midrand team competes in Full Throttle race

ON 8 SEPTEMBER about 100 competitors participated in round seven of the Full Throttle Northern Regions Series, which took place in Kyalami. Since the previous event at RedStar, a lot of work went into the Midrand team's Full Throttle Honda NSF250, with engine and suspension updates, in order to give the driver Themba Khumalo a competitive edge. The bumpy Kyalami surfaced posed a challenge for the lightweight Moto-3 machines.

Public relations officer of Motorsport, Vaughan Swanepoel said, “A string of recent crashes left the team short of parts. Driving in Kyalami, Themba Khumalo had to be conservative in qualifying and race one. He managed to lap steadily, posting the second quickest qualifying time behind championship leader, Troy Bezuidenhout. Khumalo posted very competitive lap times, very close to the circuit lap record.”

Swanepoel added, “For the first race Khumalo finished in second place, 14 seconds behind Troy Bezuidenhout, and 16 seconds ahead of third-place finisher, Dylan Barnard. For the last race of the day Khumalo put on a good race but was left behind a good gap by Troy Bezuidenhout. Khumalo showed improved confidence and maturity throughout the race, after a difficult period of crashes and suspension problems in recent events. The team looks forward to the next event at Zwartkops on 19 October.”
