Midrand racer back on top

MIDRAND - After three closely fought races at Zwartkops Raceway, Midrand's Graeme Nathan reclaimed the lead in the Bridgestone Production Cars Class T championship.

This was at round seven of the Bridgestone Production Cars held on 31 August at Zwartkops Raceway.

In what turned out to be day filled with spectacular accidents and drama aplenty, Nathan kept a cool head, avoided the carnage and bagged a solid haul of points.

Driving the distinctive orange Indy Oil Volkswagen Golf 6 GTI, the multiple saloon car champion from Midrand finished second in each race; his consistency was enough to give him the overall win for the day. More importantly, the string of second places saw him move nine points clear of season-long rival Gavin Cronje, after the duo went to Zwartkops to level on points.

Nathan said, “Make no mistake, it was tough. I could have won race three but had a moment in at turn eight in the last race and Gavin got through. Grip levels change, and because Zwartkops is so hard on brakes the feel of the brakes also changes and it just caught me out. Still, I’m happy to come away as championship leader.”

Next stop for the Nathan Motorsport Indy Oil team is Killarney in Cape Town for the penultimate round of the championship on 3 October.
