‘Decision to remove Still is a good one’

JOHANNESBURG – Anthony Still was removed as MMC for Environment and Infrastructure in February by Mayor Herman Mashaba, to mixed reactions. Here is one resident's opinion on the matter.

Kabelo Moralo writes in response to article, A Correct Decision, published Week ending 3 March:

It was one of the best decisions made by Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba to remove Anthony Still as the MMC. One wonders why Still is defending the managing director of City Power despite the concrete evidence of deep-rooted corruption presented to him and the chairperson of the board of directors, Reverend Frank Chikane.

The same applies to you, Chikane. One wonders whether they were also beneficiaries of the shocking rot that the executive mayor is about to discover. The two gentlemen have conveniently hidden behind the ‘reports’ that cleared the managing director. Why are those ‘reports’ so classified and shrouded in top secrecy? They have also maintained that the public protector also cleared the managing director, but recently the new public protector announced that her office had begun investigations.

Who is fooling who?

Some questions need to be asked of Chikane namely, “Will you resign and ask for forgiveness from the ratepayers when Sizwe Ntsaluba Gobodo investigators expose the rot you are defending? Will you come with the old trick that management kept you in the dark? Do you know what the irreparable damage is going to be done to your hard earned political struggle credentials? Will you stop criticising others as corrupt when it would have been proven that shocking corruption took place under your watch as the chairperson of the board of directors of City Power? Do you know that nobody will thereafter take you seriously when you speak of eradicating corruption?”

Note: Reverend Frank Chikane said the latest investigation by the public protector is a different one than what was previously brought before her office. He is, however, unsure what exactly the investigation is about. Chikane also called a press briefing in February, saying that the board supports Mashaba’s investigation fully and would take action where warranted and within their legal capabilities.
