Treat women with the respect they deserve

McDivett Tshehla from Halfway House, Midrand, writes:

WOMEN are always the pillars of strength of each and every nation, yet our attitudes towards them are not good.

Is there anyone who was not given birth to by a woman? This is a testimony of how important women are. It really saddens me and breaks my heart to read about women abuse which is still rife, whether at home or at workplaces.

Times have changed and women of today have ‘arrived’. Don’t confuse the 50-50 concept, this was brought up as a means to empower women as they have been dumped in the doldrums and treated as secondhand citizens for a long time. Traditionally, a man still remains the head of the house, but isn’t the woman the neck that helps that head turn?

We are meant to be protectors, why have some of us turned into monsters? Why are men threatened by women’s success? Why abuse her when she helps pay households bill? When you pay for car and bond mortgages, she pays the insurances and school fees. When you bring home bacon, she brings the whole leg of a pig.

Learn and practise being grateful and appreciate women and celebrate their success. Give them respect and treat them with the dignity that they so sincerely deserve.

Women are the beacon of hope, pinnacles, epitome, shining stars, examples who keep the home fires burning no matter how hard the situations maybe. Women never give up. The saying goes, ‘Behind every successful man is a woman’. We mustn’t only celebrate women on Women’s Day and month but each and every day.

Endless reports of women abuse make me bow my head in shame as a man. Let’s treat them with care, unconditional, endless love and give them our undivided support.
