Sick and tired of being sick and tired

It would seem just as we think we are winning one battle, we have to get ready to fight the another one.

Our government seems content on pissing off Joburg residents and South Africa as a whole. We have had scandal after sandal – and it doesn’t seem like any end is in sight.

We had the famous Schabir Shaik arrested in 2001, where a corrupt relationship between himself and president Jacob Zuma was suggested in court. Fast forward a few years and we had shiny blue gantries erected on our highways, despite strong public opinion against the e-tolling system. Moving on a few more months, we have Nkandla and Public Protectors requesting our president to reimburse the state for luxuries added to his ever-growing homestead. Zuma and the ruling party seem pretty content that Zuma has done no wrong and will not pay back the money – a new and exciting coin phrase that the Economic Freedom Front suggested.

On 13 November, Parliament heated up and a near punch-up ensued after opposition parties voiced their concerns and unhappiness regarding the ruling parties decision to protect their president.

While I respect the majority rule in voting for the ANC and have no doubt Zuma has been able to do a lot of good during his current term, it would seem as if he has no respect for the citizens of South Africa. And in my opinion, they thinks we are fools.

I for one, am tired of the lies and deceit that have come out of government. South Africa has such a bright future, but the circus that was parliament on 13 November makes that future seem somewhat dimmer. But as our history has made us, we will strongly commence in battle and continue to fight one battle after another. Let’s just hope the future holds some sort of victory.
