Midrand High School RCL president sets her sights high as a leader

"Leadership is about the next generation, not the election," says the president.

Nakisani Nephawe writes:

My name is Nakisani Nephawe. I am a Grade 12 learner and RCL president at Midrand High School as well as the president of the Johannesburg East District (D9).

I never thought I would ever become the RCL president of Midrand High School, let alone the Johannesburg East District.

I have always been told to sit down and keep quiet because I am ‘too young’ and know nothing.

I grew up being bullied in primary school because I was the youngest and the easiest to be picked on.

Although, through God, I had the courage to stand up for myself and others, even though I knew I would be standing alone.

Despite the responsibilities of being president, I will try my utter best to leave a mark at Midrand High School and the Johannesburg East District at large.

I hope to show upcoming leaders that leadership is not about position but about taking action. It can be for the voiceless or change.

Leaders should always remember that leadership is about the next generation, not the next election.
