The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall final-year students get inspired and prepared for the workplace

More than 50 students were educated and inspired on how to build personal brand identity and exceed in the workplace.

Kaizer Chiefs Football Club corporate communication manager Alpheus ‘Vina’ Maphosa recently visited IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall to inspire the students.

Vina educated and inspired more than 50 of the college’s final-year students on how to build a personal brand identity and exceed in the workplace.

“The opportunity to talk to final year students during one of their career afternoons organised by the on-campus career centre allowed me to share my experience of life and how to succeed in the working environment,” said Vina.

“The world of work is a jungle and only the fit survive. Students should enter the workplace well-prepared, disciplined, committed and dedicated to their work. Use your personality to shine and advance in this fast-paced world of ours.”

Vina pointed out how students who are recognised as confident have a significant advantage in the business world, as this will open doors for them and gaining self-confidence is easier than most students think.

“Do what makes you who you are and embrace that because everyone is different and that is how we exceed and stand out from the rest. Be friendly and consistent. Prove that you are trustworthy and interact with people that are on different levels than you, as they will encourage continued growth,” he explained.

Tsholofelo Sefanyetso a third year IIE Bachelor of Commerce in Law student and career centre committee member said the students found the career afternoon very inspiring. “What I took from Alpheus Maphosa’s talk is that I should carry myself as if I am a walking living brand – Tsholofelo (Pty) Ltd. I also learned that I should look and act respectfully towards others and myself. I should be extraordinary in everything I do, right down to the way I walk and talk,” said Sefanyetso.

“I also learned that I should aspire to help others grow and to be around people that evoke growth within me as well. I especially learned that I should learn to live life and grab as many opportunities as possible. I will not forget the experience and I hope to cross paths with him again.”
