A successful valediction ceremony for the Grade 8s

Each learner ended the ceremony by ringing the school bell, signifying their official arrival at the high school.

Acts House of Education recently held a Grade 8 valediction ceremony to welcome the learners into the school’s high school family.

The valediction on February 3 commenced with the school’s senior phase head of department Sherwin Reddy opening with a prayer.

Reddy proceeded to call out each Grade 8 learner while the school principal Riaan van der Merwe adorned them with their blazers.

The learners have experienced various activities since entering the school, all for the purpose of immersing them into the culture of school life at Acts House. “The school matric learners initiated the Grade 8s by taking them through the final phase of their childhood,” said the school in a statement.

They sang all sorts of nursery rhymes ranging from Row your boat to The Mickey Mouse clubhouse.

Van der Merwe spoke to the learners about the reason for a valediction and encouraged them to be resilient during the new phase of their career and gave them a warm welcome.

The learners proceeded to make a pledge which signified their commitment to God, their education, teachers, and Acts House of Education.

For the last part of their initiation, the learners experienced a day camp at Die Hoekie in Hartbeespoort. “During their time at the camp, they were taught skills to understand their peers, become leaders, be punctual with tasks, and most importantly respect the teachers that will impart them with godly and educational knowledge.”

The initiation and day camp helped the learners to transition comfortably into the new phase of their schooling career.

The ceremony concluded with each learner ringing the school bell. This aspect of the valediction signified the learner’s official arrival and welcoming into the high school.

The school extends a huge thank you to the parents of the learners for their compliments on the ceremony. “Lastly to the Grade 8 learners of 2023, we hope your time with us at Acts House of Education will be most fulfilling and life-changing!”
