The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall prioritises students’ wellness with new student wellness manager

Engaging in student wellness activities on campus hosted by VC Cares and seeking counselling can help students navigate their tertiary journey.

IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall believes that being part of tertiary education can be a challenging journey for students, not only academically but also socially, emotionally, and psychologically.

Taking part in student wellness, the college recently appointed Nozipho ‘Nozi’ Nkosi as the new student wellness manager.

Nozi is a registered counsellor who recently completed her bachelor of psychology at Midrand Graduate Institute and master’s of Social Science in Community Mental Promotion at the South African College of Applied Psychology.

She is passionate about student wellness and believes that every student already has the potential to grow and develop.

Nozi is excited to be the catalyst for this growth and students will start their academic year knowing that they have the support needed via free counselling and support groups.

“My goal is to create an environment where our students can grow, develop and flourish, to continue to address the stigma around mental health, and for our students to understand that their mental health is as important as their physical health. I would also like to bring a holistic approach to student wellness,” said Nozi.

She will also work closely with VC Cares (student volunteer body) to instill a sense of citizenship and social responsibility in students through community engagement and environmental projects.

Moreover, engaging in student wellness activities on campus hosted by VC Cares and seeking counselling can help students navigate their tertiary journey.

“I am always available to help students through difficult times or when they feel overwhelmed especially our first-year students entering the tertiary space,” concludes Nozi.

Nozi and VC Cares have already planned some fundraising projects for their community projects which will include visiting children’s homes, homeless shelters, animal hospitals, old age homes, and many more.
