Two learners from the Baobulb Drama Academy excel at the National Eisteddfod

The learners got a diploma for their duo verse ‘Fatherless Children’ and a diploma is the highest achievement at the Eisteddfod.

Baobulb Drama Academy aims to discover, nurture, and expose the artistic talent of inspiring actors, poets, and public speakers.

Ndivho Hlungwani of Noordwyk Secondary School and Taylor Sakoane of Glen Austin High School represented the academy at this year’s National Eisteddfod Academy after attending the Midrand-based academy for almost a year.

Taylor Sakoane achieves a gold certificate in the narrative poem category.

The eisteddfod was held at Hoërskool Staatspresident C R Swart in Pretoria on October 14 and both learners performed narrative poems, dramatised monologues and a duet ensemble verse.

In the narrative poem speaking category, both learners achieved a gold certificate. Ndivho received a diploma certificate for her comic monologue Lunchtime while Taylor received a diploma for her dramatic monologue Joan of Arc. The learners received another diploma for their duet ensemble verse Fatherless Children. A diploma is the highest achievement at the eisteddfod.

Ndivho Hlugwani achieves a gold certificate in the narrative poem category.

The girls will participate in the National Eisteddfod Young Performers Awards to be held next year in March at the University of Joburg arts centre.

Their mentor and drama coach Brian Jokozela said he was proud of their achievement and was confident they were going to do well at the National Eisteddfod Young Performers Awards.
