Exciting kids’ sports day in Rabie Ridge

The youth of Rabie Ridge enjoyed a day of chess, tennis and soccer, which encouraged healthy living and friendship.

The Truth and Hope Foundation hosted a vibrant event for children on May 18, at Rabie Ridge Stadium The entire day was filled with sports and fun.

The day kicked off with sessions in both chess and tennis, where kids had the chance to learn and play both these games.

Zinhle Moyo, one of the participants and winner of the tennis tournament, said that she preferred to play tennis because it is much more interesting and is not as rough or harsh as other sports. She also prefers that smaller court set up of only four people as compared to the 14 of netball.

Expert instructors from the Truth and Hope Foundation, Sydwell and Thandeka Ramakokovhu alongside Dumisane Meela, taught the basics and ensured everyone had a great time.

As the day progressed, the event shifted focus to soccer, catering to those with a passion for the sport. The children participated in a mini-tournament, showcasing their skills on the field. The excitement was evident as each group crowned their winners in tennis, chess, and football.

Sydwell Ramakokovhu, the founder and president of Truth And Hope Foundation said, “The event overall went well, the planning yielded positive fruits as we want children to indulge in different sporting codes apart from the norm of a Kasi kid playing soccer and netball – they must be exposed to tennis, rugby, volleyball, chess and others.”

He then concluded by saying that he hopes to recruit more children as he wants to spread the message as far as possible that at Rabie Ridge you can play various sports, He was taken aback when they dished up food and children that weren’t part of the programme wanted some as well. This serves a message to him and the other officials that poverty is real.

Overall, the day was a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore different sports, learn new skills, and enjoy themselves in a supportive environment.
