Suspect arrested during Kyalami crime prevention drives

A suspect in possession of a stolen vehicle was apprehended during a joint crime prevention operation.

During a joint crime prevention operation involving the local Community Policing Forum (CPF), Midrand police, JMPD, Castle Kyalami Security and Aragon Security Group, a suspect in possession of a stolen vehicle was apprehended.

The joint operation is part of a long-standing relationship between Midrand police and the community in a bid to reduce crime in the precinct.

The CPF took part in a joint Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) with Midrand police and JMPD which turned out to be successful.

The operation began around 19:30 when all involved gathered at Kyalami Corner where the Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso thanked them for their contribution to keeping the community safe.

The VCP roadblocks, looking to detect and remove criminal activity, were conducted in various sites. Private security from Castle Kyalami pulled over a suspicious driver on Riversands Boulevard.

After extensive questioning, the driver allegedly could not provide a valid driver’s license and brandished a fake ID. The vehicle’s details were run through the police database and it was confirmed that the vehicle he was driving had been hijacked just four days earlier.

“These joint operations in collaboration with the CPF and the police have been instrumental in keeping crime in check in our community,” said Kyle Grover from Castle Kyalami Security.

The vehicle was recovered and the driver along with his passenger were arrested on the spot facing charges of having stolen vehicle, pending further investigation.

Community relations officer for Castle Kyalami Alice Meiring said, “The unity in Midrand extends beyond community safety. We kept each other alive during the pandemic and ever since then, we have worked together to address issues in the community. It is a pleasure to be part of this hardworking and tight-knit neighbourhood.”

The district police spokesperson Captain Jeff Phora, confirmed that the suspect was arrested.
