New Dawn Senior Citizens get a new home

New Dawn Senior Citizen vice-chairperson believes being able to get home was 'a step up.'

Midrand’s New Dawn Senior Citizens (NDSC) members were all smiles as they met for the first time in their new home in Halfway Gardens.

The senior residents, who previously met in different venues, opened their new meeting place at the Ria Sebetsa Security offices in Van Heerden Road on November 27.

Vice-chairperson of the seniors Vivian Moodley said, “The New Dawn Senior Citizen never had a permanent venue, we used to meet at different venues and that became a little bit expensive. We have been asking around for people to offer us a place where we can meet. And the Ria Sebetsa director [Danny Maduray] gave us the venue, and he has given us it for free.”

He said they were grateful to have the venue they can now call home.
Moodley appealed to the residents in private or public sectors, who wish to help the senior citizens pamper themselves in their twilight years, to come forward.

He said until a good Samaritan out there comes forward to build them a clubhouse, they will stay in their new home.
“Otherwise, we are quite comfortable [in our new home], we can move, eat and chat here all. We are ecstatic that we got this place. It’s a step up from where we were,” added Moodley.

He said they were planning an end-of-the-year lunch and added that they will close towards Christmas Day to ensure their members who are not going on holiday don’t feel lonely.
The club meets every Sunday from around 12:00.
