The Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko along with other officials from the department, took part in an emergency first responder training session to equip themselves with the skills required to respond to a wide range of emergencies on October 26 at the Gauteng EMS head office in Midrand.
The MEC challenged the staff at the department to join her in empowering themselves to serve the people of Gauteng better, including ensuring that every able-bodied staff member becomes a first responder in emergencies.
Gauteng EMS deputy director JP von Benecke took Nkomo-Ralehoko through the call centre and its system. The MEC also had an opportunity to respond to emergency medical services request calls.

Nkomo-Ralehoko also met with paramedics from Lebone College of Emergency Care (Green Angels) who briefed her about the various courses offered at the institution and showed her and the team how to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in case of an emergency.
