Midrand Local Football Association seeks youth for its referee programme

Attendees should bring sweaters, shorts or track pants, socks, and comfortable shoes to participate effectively.

Midrand Local Football Association (MLFA) is seeking local boys and girls who are interested in becoming referees.

MLFA and former Premier Soccer League referee Abel Maphutha leads the referee training sessions at Rabie Ridge Stadium on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 16:30 to 17:30, and on Fridays, he holds classes on the laws of the game from 17:30 to 19:00.

It is recommended that those who wish to attend bring sweaters, shorts or track pants and socks, and any comfortable shoes that would allow them to participate effectively.

Reading and writing are necessary skills if one wants to become a referee, a good understanding of English, and an understanding of the laws of the game.

Although older, experienced referees are of utmost importance in the refereeing fraternity, he stressed that referee development is of paramount importance and that age restrictions must be put in place in order to ensure that the best refereeing talent makes its way to the National Panel within an appropriate timeframe.

“We are still pleading to the people of the Midrand community to come in numbers to learn so that we can produce PSL material match officials because that is our aim.”
