Mthethwa said this was a huge milestone for the club and now they are hoping to achieve 1 000 members.
“I think people identify with the brand and the work that has been put forward after the previous relationship. With some of the races, people want to be part of this fun family. I think the activation is also going a long way because that’s where people start to recognise us. Our social media platform has also seen us gain traction and more followers,” said Mthethwa.

He said between 2021 and 2022, they saw a huge influx of members joining the club.“My message to the new members is that they must feel at home because this is a growing club. They have made the right decision to join the club and we hope they can be utilised to bring their expertise where they can contribute to the growth of the club and hope they will stay with us for as long as possible,” added Mthethwa.

A new member, Teressa Ndzumeni, said she stays in Buccleuch and it is quiet at times, making her feel unsafe when jogging.

“I started running with the club in April. I am not an elite runner but I figured I could make friends and socialise while enjoying myself. The experience has been amazing. I meet with the club members on a Tuesday. What I like about Tuesday’s run, is the #InHerHonour, in which male members protect female runners if they are left behind. My goal is to improve on myself, because I am a slow runner, and hope to do the club’s half marathon,” said Ndzumenni.

Another new member, Phindile Madonsela, said, “I joined around early September, just after the half marathon. I joined because I enjoy running, and availed myself with assisting the team prepare for the half marathon. So far, I have been well received, and before joining, I met the members at the Mall of Africa, and enjoyed the vibe and energy”.

Madonsela said she hopes to improve her pace in less than a year from now.
