Body discovered in debris of Midrand residential complex fire

Johannesburg emergency services were still combing through the rubble this afternoon.

Emergency services have confirmed that one body has been found in the rubble of the Broadwalk Urban Village fire on September 25.

A blaze, on September 24, destroyed the residential complex in Midrand before midnight.

The body was found on the second floor, this is despite the City of Johannesburg emergency services stating that they had conducted searches at each of the 130 apartments.

Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said the body was found in the rubble under a collapsed roof.

A Midrand Reporter journalist is at the complex talking to the affected residents who are seen sitting on camping chairs on the pavement outside.

Earlier this morning on September 25, the owner had called local hotels to house those who had lost their homes.
