Councillor pleased with Dale Road repairs by City of Ekurhuleni

Glen Austin’s Dale Road has been subject to water leaks, mostly from Ekurhuleni water pipes.

Ward 92 councillor Charmaine Ngoepe said she was pleased with the progress made by City of Ekurhuleni to fix two separate leaking pipes on Dale Road in Glen Austin.

In a short response video to the paper after an inquiry put to her on September 16, Ngoepe said she needed to do an inspection to see the progress made on what she referred to as an eyesore on the road.

“I am here to check this leaking pipe, which has water leaks underneath, and has been opened and fixed. Johannesburg Water told me that it falls under City of Ekurhuleni although the pipe is in Ward 92 in Midrand. I found Ekurhuleni officials are busy fixing it. After getting media inquiries from Midrand Reporter, I decided to come and check how far are they with the fixing,” said Ngoepe.

She said she then visited another leaking pipe, which also falls under Ekurhuleni, and was pleased with the progress made as leaks in both pipes had been repaired.

“You can see that these two separate leaks are connected to one pipe. I am just not sure where the pipe ends. I found the city officials busy fixing and we are grateful that they are working together with us to fix the two leaks,” added Ngoepe in another video.

City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the team was attending to two major burst pipes on Dale Road and leaking valves.
“The team has completed the repairs to the pipe burst and valves. The team is currently working on building the valve chambers to properly secure the valves,” said Dlamini.

However, he did not give any time frame for when the team will finish, and begin to backfill the dug-up pipes.
