Acts House of Education’s Career Day ignites a spark of ambition and curiosity among learners

This event exemplifies the ongoing commitment to connecting learners with seasoned professionals, paving the way toward flourishing futures.

Acts House of Education held its highly anticipated annual Career Day in mid-August, where a series of exceptional professionals volunteered their time and expertise to guide and inspire the learners.

The event was a resounding success, offering invaluable insights into various career paths and life beyond the classroom.

The day kicked off with Lizaan Tait, an expert in investment and asset management, who shared her experiences in the financial world. Her talk provided learners with a deeper understanding of how investment decisions shape our economy and personal financial stability.

Acts House High School head boy Calum Magerman said, “I was not interested in commerce at all, but after Ms Tait spoke to us, I became interested in investment management. Exposure to different career fields has been an eye-opener.”

Following Tait was Jacques Blignaut, a well-known professional actor, who captivated the audience with his journey in the entertainment industry.

His session was filled with anecdotes about the challenges and triumphs of an actor’s life.

Next up, Mikey Irwin, a pastor and community leader, took the stage. His session focused on the importance of community involvement and leadership. Irwin’s talk was not only about career guidance but also about the significance of values, faith, and giving back to society.

The next speakers consisted of six Masters and PHD students studying under, Dr Musa Mansa, a distinguished geophysicist and lecturer at Wits University. Their presentation offered a fascinating glimpse into the world of geophysics and its role in understanding our planet.

Thereafter, Masego More, a dynamic professional in agriculture, mechanical engineering, and entrepreneurship, energised the room with her diverse career journey.

The day concluded with a captivating session from professional photographer Josh Biya who shared his creative process and the business aspects of photography.

Jessica Morgan, Acts House High School’s head girl said, “to be able to see photography and film study in practice as shared by professionals was amazing, because you do not really get exposed to it in everyday life, and we gained insight into what it means to study the arts.”
