The Dress for Success initiative was not just another campus workshop, it was an interactive experience aimed at demystifying professional dressing.

Coordinated by the dedicated Career Centre committee, the atmosphere was electric, blending education and enjoyment seamlessly. Students were eager to learn how their clothing choices could impact their career trajectories.

A highlight of the event was the live demonstration featuring contestants who showcased outfits tailored for specific career scenarios, including interviews, business networking events, and corporate environments.

Their humorous take on what to avoid in professional attire added an element of fun, making the learning process enjoyable. Feedback from a panel of judges, including esteemed lecturers Bruce Vervliet, Lethu Raymond, and Bradley Bester, provided contestants with invaluable insights on confidence and presentation. This real-time critique did not just benefit the participants, it enriched the audience’s understanding as well.

The fierce competition culminated in the recognition of outstanding participants across multiple categories. Koketso Legodi, a second-year Bachelor of Education student, excelled in the Business Networking category, while Vanessa Tiro, also a third-year Bachelor of Education student, triumphed in the Interview category.

Claudine Otto, a third-year Bachelor of Commerce in Law student, shone in the Corporate Wear category. Finally, fourth-year student Karabo Modikoe won the What Not To Wear section, with each winner taking home a goodie bag filled with exciting prizes.

Otto expressed enthusiasm. “Dress for Success was a fun-thrilling experience. I dressed as if in the corporate environment because I am a law student, and that is what I will be wearing to work every day.

“When people think about corporate, some think of uncomfortable clothing. I dressed the way I did to show students that you can feel good and look good at the same time. What you wear will influence how you feel during the day. If you are comfortable, and confident in what you wear, and add a bit of colour, it will automatically brighten up your day.”

The blend of education, creativity, and practicality offered by this event provided an enriching experience that encouraged students to approach dressing for their careers with renewed confidence and intention.
