Rabie Ridge land grab leaves one dead after shooting

Ekurhuleni police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the victim and the suspect were fighting over land to erect their shacks.

Rabie Ridge police are investigating a case of murder after a 29-year-old man was shot and killed, allegedly over a land dispute.

According to the police, a fight ensued between the deceased and a 42-year-old suspect over the erection of shacks in Rabie Ridge on August 22 at about 08:00, during which the suspect allegedly shot the man.

Ekurhuleni police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the suspect came running to the Rabie Ridge Police Station and told officers the community wanted to kill him.

“The suspect was interviewed and confirmed that he was fighting with the deceased over land. The suspect alleged that the deceased took his land and the fight started. The suspect took out his licensed firearm and shot the deceased.” She said the deceased was yet to be identified by the police.

Sekgobela added the suspect was arrested. “The firearm was booked on SAPS’ registers. The murder case is being investigated at Rabie Ridge SAPS.”
Rabie Ridge and Austin View have been plagued by land invasions recently.
