Botshabelo Babies Home receive generous donations from The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall

The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall recently organised and executed a remarkably successful month-long initiative known as the Winter Warmer Drive to benefit local care centre, Botshabelo Babies Home.

This initiative not only aimed to collect essential items for the babies but also brought the campus community together in a collective effort to contribute to a worthy cause.

Botshabelo is a commendable local organisation that is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for infants who are in desperate need of care and support.

A compassionate group of volunteers from the campus, alongside members of the Student Volunteer Body, came together with the college’s Student Wellness manager, Nzulu Skosana.

This committed team made their way to Botshabelo, where they were eager to hand over a variety of pre-loved clothing items, cozy blankets, warm scarves, and cute beanies which had been generously collected from students and staff members throughout the campus.

This heartfelt demonstration of community spirit was a beautiful representation of the college’s unwavering commitment to making a tangibly positive impact within the local community.

Lizzy Moyo, the fundraising manager at Botshabelo Babies Home, shared insights about the home’s operations.

She explained that the facility accommodates only 15 babies at a time, which allows the dedicated staff to provide the highest level of attention and care that each individual baby deserves.

This intimate setting ensures that each child receives the love and support they need to thrive in their early stages of life.

Moyo elaborated on the importance of the donations, noting that, “most of the donations go to our babies. The adult clothing donated is repurposed to raise funds to take care of our babies,” she explained, highlighting the dual impact of the contributions received from the community.

She also shared a recent event that underscored the urgent needs of the home. “We just had a case where our 22-week-old baby had to go to the hospital, and all the costs will be covered through funds raised by donations from The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall and other generous donors.”

Moyo expressed her immense gratitude to the college campus for its continued support and involvement, emphasising that such contributions are vital to the well-being of the babies in their care.

“We are very grateful to the campus for its support. We trust that the students involved know that they are helping a baby at Botshabelo Babies Home,” she concluded. reinforcing the significance of the community’s role in improving the lives of vulnerable infants within their facility.
