Johannesburg Water begins final phase of Rand Water Palmiet pump station maintenance.

Crucial maintenance work will temporarily disrupt water supply across several areas in Johannesburg as pumping capacity is reduced.

On Monday, July 29,  Johannesburg Water commenced the third and final phase of maintenance at Rand Water’s Palmiet Pump Station. This essential work, which began at 05:00, is expected to conclude on Tuesday, July 30, at 21:00. The immediate areas affected by this maintenance include those reliant on the direct feeds from South Hills Tower and Alexander Park Reservoir, as well as Linksfield Reservoir. As the maintenance progresses, additional areas served by the Sandton and Midrand reservoirs will gradually experience disruptions as reservoir levels begin to deplete.

The maintenance will impact various Johannesburg Water systems, particularly those in the Sandton and Midrand regions, alongside the South Hills Tower and the Alexandra Park, Randjieslaagte, and Linksfield reservoirs. Residents within these areas are advised that recovery of water systems may take several days following the completion of the maintenance work. Specifically, recovery for those fed by Sandton and Midrand reservoirs may extend longer, as these reservoirs will require time to rebuild their capacity after the initial depletion.

To mitigate the impact of the shutdown, Johannesburg Water has organized alternative water supply arrangements at strategic points throughout the affected residential areas. However, residents are strongly encouraged to store water in advance to ensure they have sufficient supplies during the maintenance period.

As Johannesburg Water continues to ensure the reliability of water services for its customers, the community’s understanding and preparation are greatly appreciated. This maintenance work reflects ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of water infrastructure, ultimately supporting the city’s long-term sustainability and service excellence.

Johannesburg Water remains committed to providing updates throughout the maintenance process and appreciates residents’ cooperation in this critical undertaking.
