Local running club gears up for annual half marathon

As the half-marathon race is drawing closer, there is a sense of excitement from club members eager to hit the ground running.

The 2024 edition of the Midrand Striders half-marathon will celebrate the club’s 44-year history on August 9.

A regular in the road race calendar, the race will take runners and walkers through the picturesque Midrand area where they might catch a glimpse of horses on their morning stroll.

Race director Gabriel Mphahlele announced this at the Kyalami Corner Shopping Centre on July 13 when club members participated in their 10km morning run.

Mphahlele said the half-marathon would cater for everyone and consist of 21km, 10km, and 5km races in alignment with their motto of ‘fun, fitness, and family’.

“This is the year we have partnered with Kyalami Corner to ensure a fun, unique atmosphere. As we celebrate our 44th birthday this Women’s Day, we expect a fun-filled morning with lots of entertainment for everyone. There will be plenty of exciting post-race activities for their convenience. Kyalami Corner is a centre that cares and is very much integrated into the fabric of the community,” said Mphahlele.
“It was a natural gravitation that was long overdue seeing as the Midrand Striders regularly use the centre for their runs and club meets. Leading to the race day, the club will have activations to assist the public with manual entries.”

He said the club would continue to build good relationships with their runners and neighbouring running clubs.
