Katlego Komana, founder and CEO of Soulful Brew pleased that her latest coffee tasting was a success.

Katlego Komana, who recently relaunched her online coffee shop, is an avid coffee lover, and an entrepreneur at heart.

Komana, founder and CEO of Soulful Brew, says, she faced hardships in her journey of entrepreneurship, and has an inspiring story to share when it comes to business and reliance.

She re-launched her coffee brand on July 6 at an intimate coffee-tasting experience at the Cappuccinos Blue Hills.

“Partnerships help boost our visibility to the public as small business owners. I am happy that this event was a success. Super excited about the feedback and ready to grow,” said Komana

The event was attended by Specialty Coffee Association of South Africa’s former barista competition judge, Quincy Hlongwane, who joined Komana for a luxurious coffee tasting experience.

“Us South Africans have one thing in common with the Americans; we like our coffee bigger, hotter, sweeter, and even creamier, but that’s okay because you know which is the best coffee? The one you just enjoyed, and the one you make for yourself at home.”

Komana’s entrepreneurial journey wasn’t an easy ride, with ups and downs over the years.

“[It] started in 2019 as the founder of Kay Holdings, selling wine and instant coffee to my market, while also doing my post-graduate degree at the University of Limpopo. While completing my Master’s degree at Wits University, I couldn’t continue self-funding the business, and decided to pause due to financial constraints,” said Komana.

She said her master’s programme, and the Covid-19 pandemic, had a huge strain on her, and the business.

“I took a huge knock, so I placed everything on pause. This year I rebuilt the business, and the plan is to grow from here. The Coffee product is now available online on Takealot. Soulful Brew – an online coffee brand specialises in providing customers with a unique and flavourful coffee experience through carefully crafted specialty coffee blends, artisanal coffee drinks, handcrafted coffee, and customised coffee orders,” added Komana.

She said from bright Ethiopian florals to rich Colombian chocolate notes, that’s where she discovered the diverse flavors and aromas of each original blend.

With a strong commitment to business, and all things coffee, Komana spent years reshaping her business model to adapt to the current digital landscape, and has her eyes set on securing funding for the future.
