Ekurhuleni district deputy commissioner leads Operation Shanela to Rabie Ridge policing precinct

Ekurhuleni District deputy commissioner, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela thanked the joint efforts by the teams involved which led to the arrests.

The multidisciplinary approach operations in Rabie Ridge policing precinct to clean up the streets and eliminate crime led to the apprehension of 264 suspects.

This was during Operation Shanela held on the corner of Republic and Boshoff roads on June 26, led by Ekurhuleni District Deputy Commissioner Brigadier Lebohang Machakela.
The operation is aimed at stamping the authority of the state and helping the local police station in the reduction of crime.

Machakela said 123 suspects were arrested for contact crime, 21 for contact-related crimes, 53 for other serious crimes, 31 for gender-based violence, three for tampering with infrastructure, 19 for property crime, and four for a warrant of arrest.

“Furthermore, during this operation, four liquor outlets were closed and were issued with J534 fines of R6 000, and two gambling machines were confiscated. A total of 66 national traffic fines to the value of R67 000 were issued to motorists.
“Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department also issued traffic fines to the value of R23 750 and two suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, crystal meth and mandrax tablets, one dealing in drugs [valued R1 000] arrested by the crime intelligence team, and 22 for being undocumented,” said Machakela.

Car engines were checked and compared to VIN numbers to verify they were not tampered with.

At the end of the operation, an imbizo was held at the Kanana Sport grounds where the community had the opportunity to engage with the district management regarding the issues of crime and how to work together in fighting crime.

Machakela appreciated the joint efforts by the teams involved which led to the arrests, ensuring that criminals don’t have freedom in the Ekurhuleni and Rabie Ridge policing area.
