Noordwyk Secondary School netball star inspired by mother and sister

Mathoto Malapile, the U17 Noordwyk Secondary School captain, says she loves playing netball and is thankful to her mother and big sister for inspiration.

The captain of the Noordwyk Secondary Schools U17 netball team Omolemo Mathoto Malapile, said her deep love for netball comes from her mother and sister who also play the sport.

Mathoto (17) described herself as a very passionate person when it comes to the things she is interested in. She’s also optimistic.

The lanky goal defence, who also plays for the Midrand Royals Netball club, said in the next five years, she would like to see herself pursuing an academic qualification in law.

“I would also like to be a professional netball player during that duration, and hopefully represent the country and play for the Spar Proteas,” said Mathoto.

She recently led the school to its first-ever regional participation and added, as the captain, she had learnt a lot about leadership skills off the field of play.

Mathoto Malapile is ready to make waves in netball, and in law in the near future.

“As the captain I have learnt that the role requires me to be disciplined and always well-prepared for any difficulties or challenges that may arise. Also, being the captain has taught me a great deal of leadership skills and I continue to learn more skills from the captaincy role such as being open to constructive criticism.”

Her school coach Suzan Tsatsi described her as a talented netball player who has a lot of potential to play at any level of the game.
