The fight against illegal dumping in Ward 132 continues

The fight against illegal dumping in Ward 132 continues.

The scourge of illegal dumping continues to plague Ward 132, despite the commendable efforts of the city’s Augmented Field Service Unit (AFSU) programme.

With new illegal dumping sites cropping up frequently, the community faces an ongoing battle to maintain cleanliness and environmental integrity.

Recently, another illegal dumping site has materialised at the corner of Janadel Avenue and Smuts Road in Halfway Gardens, further underscoring the pressing need to address this issue.

From paper to plastics and cardboard, a variety of debris is scattered on the corner of Janadel Avenue and Smuts Road in Halfway Gardens.

From paper to plastics and cardboard, the variety of debris found scattered around the corner serves as a stark reminder of the irresponsible actions of a few individuals.

Ward 132 councillor Annete Deppe said, “The callous act of littering not only tarnishes the landscape but also poses environmental hazards and health risks to the community.
“Whoever keeps dumping their rubbish on this corner can you please refrain from doing this?”
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s By-law Management Unit has launched a Community Active Programme, encouraging residents to actively participate in eradicating illegal dumping.

This can be done by reporting incidents of illegal dumping with crucial details such as date, time, location, type of material dumped, and vehicle registration plate numbers.
To deter illegal dumping activities, the city imposes a fine of R1 500 on the perpetrators.
