Sasqia Hassiem, a first-year Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student at The IIE Varsity College Waterfall, is a shining example of the impact these scholarships can have on a student‘s life.

As a recipient of the 2024 Achiever Scholarship, Hassiem’s educational journey has been transformed.

The scholarship has not only eased her financial burdens but has also allowed her to focus wholeheartedly on her studies.

“It has given me the freedom to embrace other opportunities both on and off campus. By showing me that my hard work is recognised and valued it has boosted my confidence and motivation. As it has had such a profound impact on my life I would like to encourage Gr12s to apply,” she said.

The scholarships come in two categories – Excellence and Achiever. To qualify for the Excellence Scholarship, Grade 12 learners must have achieved a minimum average of 75% in Grade 11 or in four subjects (excluding life orientation), with 80% or above in each.

Excellence scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, with a preference for applicants from households with an annual income below R400 000.

On the other hand, the Achiever Scholarship requires a minimum average of 60% and a household income below R400 000. Additionally, applicants for the achiever category must submit a 600-word motivation along with their application.

These scholarships are not just about financial support, they are pathways to unlocking a world of possibilities.

Students like Sasqia Hassiem exemplify how scholarships can empower individuals to pursue their academic goals, boost their confidence, and shape their futures.

As the deadline for scholarship applications approaches, Grade 12 learners with aspirations for higher education are urged to take a leap of faith and apply for The IIE Varsity College scholarships.
