The Rabie Ridge Resident’s Association has blocked Stilt Avenue leading to the Midrand’s Pikitup depot with burning tyres and debris.

The association’s chairperson Charles Jones said they demand employment for the area’s youth.

Jones said after four meetings with Pikitup depot management, they feel the youth of Rabie Ridge is marginalised.

“Following the meetings from last year we had with Pikitup, we are of the view that they are strategically ignoring and side-lining the community of Rabie Ridge from benefitting from the Midrand depot in our area,” said Jones.

He said this peaceful protest was triggered by the recent meeting on June 20, where they gave the management memorandum of demand.

However, despite giving the waste collection entity seven days to respond, Jones said they have yet to receive feedback.

Pikitup’s spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi was contacted and said he would revert to the paper with a response as soon as he gathers it.
