Unbearable President Road potholes a cause for concern for many local motorists
JRA's acting regional operations head of the department Khayalethu Gqibitole said the potholes and roads will be resurfaced in the next financial year budget.
Driving on President Road in President Park is a challenge for many motorists who use the route travelling from Ebony Park and Kaalfontein.
The road is littered with potholes and if not repaired, could lead to the erosion of the tar.

Christopher Mthombeni, who uses the road daily, said he used the road as a shortcut from Ebony Park to connect to Modderfontein Road and go to Halfway House where he works.
Mthombeni said the potholes were so bad that motorists had to drive on the wrong side of the road which was dangerous for oncoming traffic.
“The potholes here are so bad that if you are not familiar with the road, you might easily damage your tyres and get punctures. It’s frustrating driving there during peak hours as there is a lot of traffic, which makes it difficult to navigate through the potholes,” said Mthombeni.
The publication contacted the Johannesburg Roads Agency’s acting regional operations head Khayalethu Gqibitole who said the Midrand depot was aware of the potholes in President Park.
Asked how soon the potholes could be repaired Gqibitole said, “Due to the nature of the potholes the depot has recommended that the road be resurfaced and this can be only be done in the next financial year 2024/25 budget.”

However, he did not respond to the question about how often these roads were maintained by the agency.
The guardrail and chevrons on the corner of President and Boshoff roads are also damaged from accidents.
Gqibitole said the material for the guardrails and chevrons would be available around July 15 and will be immediately replaced.
