Midrand Police take time off busy schedule to donate blankets around

Co-founder and the CEO of New Jerusalem Children's Home, advocate Anna Difo said biggest beneficiaries will be the little ones from their nursery school.

The Midrand Police Station was abuzz with activities on June 14 as the men and women in blue prepared to donate blankets to New Life Centre for Girls, Tumelo Home for the Mentally Handicapped and New Jerusalem Children’s Home.

The day started with the giving of blankets to two car guards who help visitors park their cars at the station.

Station commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso said guards play a pivotal role in easing traffic outside the station during peak hours.

Tsotsotso, together with SAPS members, traffic wardens and various security companies, including Ria Sebestsa Security Services and Savika Special Ops started the journey of lending a helping hand.

New Life Centre received 10 blankets, Tumelo Home (10), New Jerusalem (10) and a further five were donated to five car guards on Church Street, making a total of 39 blankets.

“Today [June 14] we had a very good partnership with th security companys and donated the blankets to the very needy people around Midrand. As police officers, we know it’s winter time and that’s why we saw the need to take time off our busy schedule. We donated these blankets as a token of appreciation knowing the circumstances they work under,” said Tsotsotso.

Director of New Life Centre Khopotso Nakin said, “It means a lot to the centre to receive the blankets, especially during this cold winter season. We are truly grateful to the Midrand Police Station for the donations because our home is cold but the blankets will keep us all warm.”

Tumelo Home administrator Letty Matabane said, “The blankets will go a long way in keeping our children warm and we appreciate it. They will go beyond this winter and on behalf of management, staff and residents of Tumelo Home, thanks to the Midrand police for this generous gesture.”

Co-founder and the CEO of New Jerusalem Children’s Home, advocate Anna Difo said, “I am just so grateful to our police and their security partners that are here, they thought about the warmth of the children. I think the biggest beneficiaries will be the little ones in the nursery. Our relations with Midrand police come a long way and it’s been more than 15 years of partnership.”
