The other members of the team include:

  • Queen Maila as the treasurer
  • Amber Read as the deputy chairperson
  • Gomolemo Agnes Lefifi as the deputy secretary
  • Hope Read as the secretary
  • Bonolo Mashaba as the chairperson.

According to Chris Gatsi, who coordinates the activities of the youth desk, this exciting initiative is a platform that creates an enabling environment for youths to voice their concerns about crime and raise awareness among themselves in a bid to curb crimes affecting them.

“By including young people in decision-making and crime prevention programmes, the youth desk reduces apathy of exclusion and brings the community together.”

He says with Mokgadi shadowing as junior station commander alongside Midrand station commander, Brigadier David Molefe Tsotsotso, this team is poised to make a real difference in the fight against crime.

“The junior station commander is the ‘little Tsotsotso’ of Midrand We envisage that he will at times accompany the Brigadier [Tsotsotso] to events of a ceremonial nature and bring Brig to youth events,” Gatsi explained.

“This helps in building police-community relations bridging the gap where police are seen as a fearful institution yet they are socially friendly and serve the communities.”
