“We are in a vigorous talent search for potential players to participate in our structures. We have, however, found ourselves challenged in this regard as we have not been able to bring through enough young players, especially in the batting department. We therefore appealing to high schools in and around the Midrand area to partner with us in bringing the game of cricket to the youth,” said Mgandela.

He said they were also looking for schools around Midrand that would allow them to utilise their cricket nets and training facilities, which the club will maintain while using.
He said selected players will then undergo trials to play in their Premier League and Premier League reserve sides.

“They will be offered performance incentives – R300 for scoring a 50 or taking five wickets, and R500 for a 100. Part of our value proposition will be free entry for one side from the school into the club’s annual 6s tournament and participation in the club’s annual inter-club tournament. They will also be allocated a mentor who will meet with each player monthly.”

He said the players would receive holistic support as they navigate through their schooling and aspirations of reaching the pinnacle of their cricketing dreams.

Mgandela said although MCC has been fortunate to have secured some sponsors in the current and previous seasons, as an NPO, they rely on donors and sponsors who identify with developing the youth through sports.

“It is in the same light that we are still appealing to businesses in and around Midrand to please support this locally based cricket club.”
