Summerhill College organised a heart-warming cupcake event that brought together Grade 1 and 12 learners on March 8.
The little ones arrived eagerly and were thrilled to be part of the cupcake decorating activity that the older peers had planned for them.
As they gathered around the table, it quickly became evident that the Grade 12 learners were having just as much, if not more, fun than their younger peers.
The learners eagerly dove into the activity, resulting in half of the cupcake decorations ending up adorning their lips.
However, the Grade 12s were keen to demonstrate their nurturing skills and stepped in to help. They provided napkins to gently wipe away the mess and ensured everyone had a great time.
The festivities continued with an Easter egg hunt. Some of the Grade 12s jokingly inquired about the whereabouts of their ‘children’, as they joined in the search for hidden treasures.
Lara Fast, Summerhill School’s marketing manager, said one Grade 12 learner even quipped to a friend about his perceived lack of parenting prowess, jesting that he might not make a good father because he could not locate his assigned ‘child’.
To burn off the sugar-induced energy, the Grade 12s organised classic games such as Red Light, Green Light, and Red Rover. The event reached a delightful climax as the learners united in blowing bubbles together.
As the day drew to a close, emotions ran high during the farewells, highlighting the strong bonds that had been forged between the older and younger learners.
Fast expressed her gratitude for the event and the positive impact it had on the learners. “Overall, the event was a huge success, and the Grade 12 classes should be commended for their excellent organisational skills and the care they showed to their younger peers.”
